Important Dates

  • Date of Issue & Submission of Application Forms: 30th July 2018 to 16th August 2018
  • Date of Medical Board: 20th August 2018
  • Date the Written Test On 11th September 2018 from 12 noon onwards
  • Venue of Examination: Golapbag Academic Complex (Details will be notified later on)

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates holding the Master’s Degree of the University of Burdwan or a professional degree considered to be equivalent to the Master’s Degree of the University of Burdwan in the subject concerned or allied/relevant subject, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC-7 point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorised by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, may apply to the concerned Secretary of the Faculty Council for Postgraduate Studies concerned in the prescribed form for admission to the M. Phil. Program in any of the subjects in which the M. Phil. Degree may have been instituted
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50% or equivalent relaxation of grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/Differently Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC from time to time or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September 1991
  • The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualification marks without including the grace mark procedures

 

Selection Procedure

Written Entrance Test

  • For getting admission to the M. Phil. Program, a candidate shall have to appear for the written test of 100 marks with 50 questions of 2 marks each in Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) model on OMR sheet
  • Candidates will be allowed to retain the carbon copy of the OMR sheet with them after the completion of the examination. Each candidate is to secure a minimum qualifying mark of 50% in the Written Entrance Test to qualify for the viva-voce.
  • The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall cover two sections, viz, research methodology and the specific subject with 25 questions each from the two sections

Exemption from Written Test

  • Candidates who have qualified in the UGC-NET (including JRF)/ SET/SLET or Teacher Fellowship shall be exempted from appearing at the Entrance Test for admission to the M. Phil. Program

Interview

  • After qualifying in the Written Test or getting exemption from it, each candidate shall have to appear at the interview to be conducted by the University

Issue of Admit Card

  • The applicants will be required to collect Admit Cards from the Office of the concerned Faculty Council at the time of submitting the application forms

  • All Downloaded Application Forms are to be submitted to the Office of the Faculty Council (Arts etc.), at 3rd Floor, Composite Arts Building, Golapbag Academic complex, "The University of Burdwan from 30th July 2018 to 16th August 2018 between 11.00 a.m. to 03.00 p.m. along with a demand draft of Rs 250/- payable in favour of "The Finance Officer, the University of Burdwan", payable at State Bank of India, Burdwan University Branch

Documents to be enclosed with the Forms

  • Candidates must enclose with the form self-attested photo-copies of age proof, mark sheets of all the public exams passed by them up to the Post Graduate level along with two self-attested copies of recent stamp size photographs and SC/ST/OBC/DA certificate, if any, by the last date of submission of application form
