National Institute of Technology Calicut Admission to PhD Programmes December 2019

NIT Calicut PhD Admission December 2019 - National Institute of Technology (NIT), Calicut invites applications for admission to full time, part time, internal and external Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme for the academic session December 2019.

 

Ph.D. Departments

  1. Facility for doing research leading to Ph.D. degree is available in various departments of NIT Calicut as detailed below:
  2. Architecture and Planning (AR), Mathematics (MA), Chemical Engineering (CH), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Chemistry (CY) Physics (PH), Civil Engineering (CE), Computer Science & Engineering (CS), Biotechnology (BT), Electrical Engineering (EE) Management Studies (MS), Electronics & Communication, Engineering (EC) Materials Science and Engineering

 

Admission to the Ph.D. programmes will be in the following schemes:

  1. (I) Full-Time (FT)
  2. (II) Part-Time (PT)
  3. (III) Internal (IN)
  4. (IV) External (EX)
  5. Ph.D. fellowships are available for candidates under Full-time scheme.
  6. For the Part-time and External schemes of registration, the applicant must be a permanent employee of a recognized institution/organization with at least two years of service and be engaged in professional work in the area to which admission is sought.
  7. Candidates under Part-time scheme will have to submit no objection certificate from the Head of the institution.

 

Eligibility Criteria for NIT Calicut PhD Admission December 2019

I. Faculty of Engineering:

  1. ME/MTech Degree in the appropriate branch of study with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST/PWD candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 6.0/10)].
  2. Candidates shall be required to have passed B.E./B.Tech. Degree in an appropriate branch with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) in aggregate in the qualifying examination. [For SC/ST/PWD candidates 55% marks (CGPA 6.0/10)]. Candidates under lateral entry should have passed the three year diploma in engineering with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST/PWD candidates 55% marks (CGPA 6.0/10)]. Holders of AMIE (approved by AICTE) / other nationally approved programmes equivalent to B.Tech / B.E., in an appropriate area of study, may also be considered eligible subject to the provisions granted as per the judgment of Hon. Supreme Court in this regard.

 

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE):

  1. For admission to Ph.D program in ECE Department, candidates with ME/M.Tech or equivalent in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)/Electrical Engineering (EE)/Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) or in relevant disciplines related to major areas of research available in ECE department are eligible to apply.
  2. For those who are qualified for fellowship from external funding agencies such as UGC/CSIR/KSCSTE/INSPIRE, the amount of fellowship will be as per the norms of the funding agency

 

II. Faculty of Architecture and Planning:

  1. Master’s degree in Architecture/Design/Planning/Engineering/Technology or its equivalent with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST/PWD candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 6.0/10)].
  2. Candidates should possess minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees. For SC/ST/PWD candidates 55% (CGPA 6.0/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees.

 

III. Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering:

  1. ME/MTech Degree in the appropriate branch of study with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST/PWD candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 6.0/10)]. OR
  2. Master’s degree in Chemistry/Physics/Life science/Nanoscience and Technology/ any other relevant disciplines related to major areas of research available in the department with minimum 60 % marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent, [for SC/ST/PWD candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 6.0/10)] and a valid GATE score or NET-UGC/CSIR/NBHM/KSCSTE/INSPIRE in the relevant areas tenable from the current year. For those who are qualified for fellowship from external funding agency, the amount of fellowship will be as per the norms of the funding agency.
  3. Candidates should possess minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees. For SC/ST/PWD candidates 55% (CGPA 6.0/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees.
  4. Candidates applying for External and Part-time scheme of registration do not require GATE score or NET-UGC/CSIR/NBHM/KSCSTE/INSPIRE.

 

IV. Faculty of Biotechnology:

  1. ME/M.Tech. Degree in Biotechnology/Life Science/Nanotechnology/Material Science with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST/PWD candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 6.0/10)]. OR
  2. Master’s degree in Life science with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent, [for SC/ST/PWD candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 6.0/10)] and a valid GATE score or NETUGC/CSIR/NBHM/KSCSTE/INSPIRE/DBT in the relevant area, tenable from the current year.
  3. For those who are qualified for fellowship from external funding agency, the amount of fellowship will be as per the norms of the funding agency.
  4. Candidates should possess minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees. For SC/ST/PWD candidates 55% (CGPA 6.0/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees.
  5. Candidates applying for External and Part-time scheme of registration do not require GATE score or fellowships such as NET-UGC/CSIR/NBHM/KSCSTE/INSPIRE/DBT.

 

V. Faculty of Science (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics):

  1. Master’s degree in Mathematics/Statistics/Chemistry/Physics/Electronics/Computer Science & Applications/ Nano Science & Technology/ Material Science/ Photonics with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent, (for SC/ST/PWD candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 6.0/10)] and a valid GATE score or NET-UGC/CSIR/NBHM/JEST/KSCSTE/INSPIRE in the relevant areas tenable from the current year. For those who are qualified for fellowship from external funding agency, the amount of fellowship will be as per the norms of the funding agency.
  2. Candidates applying for External and Part-time scheme of registration do not require GATE score or NET-UGC/CSIR/NBHM/JEST/KSCSTE/INSPIRE. OR
  3. ME/MTech Degree in the appropriate branch of study in relevant disciplines related to the major areas of research available in these departments with minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) [For SC/ST/PWD candidates, the minimum mark is 55% (CGPA 6.0/10)].
  4. Candidates should possess minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees. For SC/ST/PWD candidates 55% (CGPA 6.0/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees.

 

VI. Faculty of Management Studies:

  1. Candidates should possess minimum 60% marks (CGPA 6.5/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees in a relevant area from an Institution recognized by UGC/AICTE [For SC/ST/PWD candidates 55% (CGPA 6.0/10) or equivalent both in Bachelors and Masters degrees]. Candidates shall be required to have passed both the Bachelors and Masters degrees in regular full time.
  2. In addition, the candidates should have a valid NET-UGC/CSIR in the relevant areas tenable from the current year. For those who are qualified for fellowship from external funding agency, the amount of fellowship will be as per the norms of the funding agency
  3. Candidates who have master’s degree in engineering and technology with GATE score, OR applying for internal/external/part-time scheme of registration, OR have managerial experience for not less than five years in a reputed organization do not require NET-UGC/CSIR fellowship.

 

Selection Process for NIT Calicut PhD Admission 2019

  1. The admission to Ph.D. Programmes will be on the basis of written test and/or interview, by the respective Department/School. Reservations are applicable to EWS/SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD as per Gov. of India rules.

 

Financial Assistance

  1. A few research fellowships are available to full-time research scholars who are not receiving any financial support/ scholarship from other Agencies or State or Central Governments.
  2. I & II Year: Rs 31,000 per month
  3. III, IV & V Year: Rs. 35,000 per month

 

NIT Calicut PhD Admission 2019 Application Procedure

  1. Candidate can apply online using the following link: http://www.dss.nitc.ac.in/mtechapp/phd/frmLogin.aspx
  2. Register with your e-mail id and mobile number for creating a login in the online portal.
  3. Before login, keep the soft copy of the following documents ready with you.
  4. Degree certificates and consolidated mark list (If consolidated mark list is not available semester wise/ year wise mark lists combined in a single pdf file) (Maximum of 800 kB)
  5. b. Recent PHOTOGRAPH (Maximum of 120 kB); c. Online fee payment receipt; d. Aadhaar Card
  6. Candidates who wish to apply to multiple departments or schools (subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria) should pay the application fee for each department separately.
  7. Payment has to be made through State Bank Collect (online) by following link (https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm?corpID=365553) using Net Banking/Credit Card/SBI Challan (by cash) by choosing the payment category as PhD Application fee December 2019.
  8. After successful completion of the fee payment, save the fee payment receipt for uploading in the application form. Application fee is as follows (Rs. 600/- for Open/EWS and OBC candidates, Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/PWD candidates). Application fee is non-refundable.
  9. Printout of the Application with all the above enclosures should be sent (in A4 size cover) by Post so as to reach the following address - Chairperson–PG Admissions, National Institute of Technology Calicut, NIT Campus PO, Calicut-673601, Kerala on or before 7th November 2019.

  2. Last date for submission of completed application form through on-line for December 2019 admission 5.00 PM on 30th October 2019
  3. Publishing list of short listed candidates for Test and/ or Interview in the website 15th November 2019
  4. Date of Test and/or Interview: 26th, 27th and 28th November 2019
  5. Publishing list of selected candidates for provisional admission in the website: 4th December 2019
  6. Date of Admission and Reporting for the Programme: 19th December 2019 (tentative)
