University of Calcutta Bachelor of Library & Information Science (BLIS) Admission 2016-17
University of Calcutta, Kolkata invites application for admission Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) Course in Faculty Council for PG Studies in Education, Journalism and Library and Information Science for the academic year 2016-17.
In 1998, the department has been renamed as the Dept. of Library & Information Science offering the course called Bachelor of Library & Information Science (BLIS).
The department is presently under the Faculty of Post Graduate Studies in Education, Journalism and Library & Information Science.
Candidates should have a Bachelor Degree with Honours (10+2+3) or Master Degree or a Degree in a technical subject (of the pattern 10+2+4 or 10+2+5) such as Medical Science, Engineering, Law etc. of this University or having an equivalent degree of any other University or Institute recognized by this University will be eligible.
Persons appearing in the final Part of Honours Exam will be allowed to sit for the Admission Test.
However, their admission to BLIS will be subject to the condition of securing Honours Degree when the result comes out and according to the merit list of BLIS Admission Test.
Candidates will be selected based on merit list of entrance examination, with reservation as per norms of the University of Calcutta.
At present, the total number of seats for BLIS course are 58 (Intake may be changed from time to time). Reservations for SC/ST/OBC & Physically Handicapped etc. students will be followed, as per the State Govt. rules.
The Admission Test will be held on specified date and time as announced. The questions of the Admission Test will be objective type and multiple choices. The areas of Admission Test may be English language, numerical ability, reasoning ability, general knowledge, basic subjects etc
A candidate shall be examined in theory and practice papers and in assignments and/or sessionals and/or class tests.
An eligible candidate who fulfils the conditions laid down above will have to appear in the final exam in each of the theory papers.
Duration of written exam for each theoretical full paper is 4 (four) hours and for half paper is 2 (two) hours.
A merit/admission list on the basis of the performance of the Admission Test will be published on the Departmental Notice Board as per schedule. No personal communication will be made to and individual candidates in this regard.

Duly filled-in-Application in the prescribed form (available on the University website along with Prospectus) for Admission Test for admission to the BLIS Course (Evening) (2016-17) accompanied by the receipt of a challan (obtainable from the Cash Counter of the University at the College Street Campus) of Rs.250/- (for General & OBC Candidates) and Rs.125/- (for SC/ST/PH candidates) should be submitted to the office of the Dept. of Library & Information Science, Asutosh Building (Top floor) 87/1 College Street, Kolkata-700073 on all working days (12.00 Noon to 02.00 PM) till 31st May 2016
The Challan should necessarily be endorsed by the Office of the Dept. before deposition of fees at Cash Counter of the University. An Entrance Exam will be held on 05th June 2016 (Sunday) at Asutosh Building for which the candidates must report along with their Admit Cards
