Jadavpur University MA Admission 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have completed BA/BSc. Final Results and fulfill the eligibility conditions laid down below may apply for admissions to M.A (Day & Evening) Courses for the academic session 2017-18

A candidate who has appeared or due to appear in the B.A./B.Sc Final Year/Semester Exam 2017, within 31st May 2017 may also apply, provided he/she fulfills the minimum eligibility criteria in Honours/Major papers in the earlier parts/semesters (PART I/ PART II exams or semesters up to the Final semester) together

For such a candidate the latest available marks Honours/Major papers in semester system/ annual system of exam will be considered for preparing the merit list

For any candidate, increase in marks due to post-publication review/scrutiny after the closing dates of application (24.04.2017) for admissions to M.A (Day & Evening) Courses for the academic session 2017-18, shall NOT be considered, and his/her merit position shall NOT be changed

Eligibility Criteria for Master of Arts (Day) Courses:

Bengali: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* in the subject or in Comparative Literature from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (50% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers

Comparative Literature: A minimum three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in Comparative Literature with at least 40% marks, or, a three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in any literature subject with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major papers

Economics: 3-Year B.A./B.Sc Honours degree* or Major in Economics from a recognised University with at least 60% marks (54% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 50% for Sports category and 45% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers and at least two papers/courses in Mathematics or Mathematical Economics

Education

Category-I: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* in Education from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBCA/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in the Honours papers
(In case Honours is NOT specified/ mentioned in the marksheet for the BA Degree of an applicant, then he/she will NOT be eligible)

Category-II: 3-Year Honours degree in any subject and a B.Ed degree with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in both degrees from any recognised University

English

Category-I: A minimum three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in English or in Comparative Literature with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/ OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major papers
(In case Honours/Major is NOT specified/ mentioned in the mark-sheet for the BA Degree of an applicant, then his/her BA Degree will be considered to be equivalent to Major in English if he/she had studied course/ papers on English Literature for at least 70% of total marks for the BA degree)

Category-II: A Bachelors degree* with a minimum of three years of formal instruction with Honours/Major/Specialization in any subject in Arts/Science/Commerce stream with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ ST category) in Honours/Major/Specialization papers or a degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelors degree*, with a minimum of three years of formal instruction and with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/OBCA/ OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category)

Film Studies: a) 3-Year Honours degree* or Major in Film Studies or any subject in Arts/Commerce/Science stream or degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or such other recognised Bachelor degree

History: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* in the History from a recognised University with at least 58% marks (52% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 48% for Sports category and 43.5% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers

Linguistics: 3-Year Honours degree* or Major in any literature or no literature subject in Arts/Commerce/Science stream with at least 45% marks (40% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B/SC/ST category) in Honours papers or degree in Eng/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelor degree

Philosophy: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* in Philosophy from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBCA/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers

Political Science with International Relations: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* or Major in Political Science from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (50% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 41% for SC/ST category and 45% for Sports category) in Honours papers

Sanskrit: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* in Sanskrit or Shastri from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (50% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41% for SC/ST category)

Sociology: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* or Major in Sociology from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers

Jadavpur University MA Admission 2017 Selection Procedure

For Master of Arts (Evening) Courses:

For Bengali and History: Selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the Honours papers. However for those candidates who have passed the correspondence courses/distance education courses, etc. of any recognised university will have to sit for a qualifying test

For Sanskrit Selection will be made on the basis of equal weight on the marks secured in Honours papers and an Admission Test in the subject
Candidates who have passed B.A. (Hons)/ B.Ed. or its equivalent exam through a correspondence course or distance mode will be required to sit for a Preliminary Qualifying Test (PQT) to be notified later.
