Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have completed BA/BSc. Final Results and fulfill the eligibility conditions laid down below may apply for admissions to M.A (Day & Evening) Courses for the academic session 2018-19
  • A candidate who has appeared or due to appear in the B.A./B.Sc Final Year/Semester Exam 2018, within 31st May 2018 may also apply, provided he/she fulfills the minimum eligibility criteria in Honours/Major papers in the earlier parts/semesters (PART I/ PART II exams or semesters up to the Final semester) together
  • For such a candidate the latest available marks Honours/Major papers in semester system/ annual system of exam will be considered for preparing the merit list
  • For any candidate, increase in marks due to post-publication review/scrutiny after the closing dates of application (01st June 2018) for admissions to M.A (Day & Evening) Courses for the academic session 2018-19, shall NOT be considered, and his/her merit position shall NOT be changed

For Master of Arts (Day) Courses

  • Bengali:3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree* in the subject or in Comparative Literature from a recognised University with at least55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and 41.25% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers
  • Comparative Literature: A minimum three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in Comparative Literature with at least 40% marks, or, a three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in any literature subject with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major papers
  • Economics: 3-Year B.A./B.Sc. Honours degree* or Major in Economics from a recognised University with at least 60% marks (54% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 50% for Sports category and 45% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers and at least two papers/courses in Mathematics or Mathematical Economics
  • Education
  • Category-I: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* in Education from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBCA/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in the Honours papers
  • (In case Honours is NOT specified/ mentioned in the marksheet for the BA Degree of an applicant, then he/she will NOT be eligible)
  • Category-II: 3-Year Honours degree in any subject and a B.Ed. degree with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in both degrees from any recognised University
  • English
  • Category-I: A minimum three-year Bachelors degree* with Honours/Major in English or in Comparative Literature with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/ OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours/Major papers
  • (In case Honours/Major is NOT specified/ mentioned in the mark-sheet for the BA Degree of an applicant, then his/her BA Degree will be considered to be equivalent to Major in English if he/she had studied course/ papers on English Literature for at least 70% of total marks for the BA degree)
  • Category-II: A Bachelors degree* with a minimum of three years of formal instruction with Honours/Major/Specialization in any subject in Arts/Science/Commerce stream with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ ST category) in Honours/Major/Specialization papers or a degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelors degree*, with a minimum of three years of formal instruction and with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/OBCA/ OBC-B/Sports category, 40% for SC/ST category)
  • Film Studies: a) 3-Year Honours degree* or Major in Film Studies or any subject in Arts/Commerce/Science stream or degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Science or such other recognised Bachelor degree
  • History: 3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree* in the History from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and41.25% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers
  • Linguistics: 3-Year Honours degree* or Major in any literature or no literature subject in Arts/Commerce/Science stream with at least 45% marks (40% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B/SC/ST category) in Honours papers or degree in Eng/Technology/Medical Science or any other recognised Bachelor degree
  • Philosophy: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* in Philosophy from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBCA/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers
  • Political Science with International Relations:3-Year B.A. Honours degree* or Major in Political Science from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 41.25% for SC/ST category and45% for Sports category) in Honours papers
  • Sanskrit:3-Year B.A. Honours/Major degree* in Sanskrit or Shastri from a recognised University with at least 55% marks (49.5% for PD/OBC-A/OBC-B category, 45% for Sports category and41.25% for SC/ST category)
  • Sociology: 3-Year B.A. Honours degree* or Major in Sociology from a recognised University with at least 50% marks (45% for PD/Sports/OBC-A/OBC-B category and 40% for SC/ST category) in Honours papers

Selection Procedure

For Master of Arts (Evening) Courses

  • For Bengali and History: Selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the Honours papers. However, for those candidates who have passed the correspondence courses/distance education courses, etc. of any recognised university will have to sit for a qualifying test
  • For Sanskrit Selection will be made on the basis of equal weight on the marks secured in Honours papers and an Admission Test in the subject
  • Candidates who have passed B.A. (Hons)/ B.Ed. or its equivalent exam through a correspondence course or distance mode will be required to sit for a Preliminary Qualifying Test (PQT) to be notified later

  • Clickthe Login option of this website, and log into your account using your Application No/ Login ID at any time. In the Acknowledgement and Admit Card page uploadyour fees deposit details by clicking Insert Fees Details
  • On submission of fees deposit details, the Admit card (where applicable) will begenerated
