IIT Guwahati PG Admission 2022 Eligibility Criteria
For PhD Program
- For receiving assistantship in PhD programs in all disciplines, candidates must qualify a national level examination like GATE, CEED, UGC/CSIR NET-JRF in addition to meeting the minimum eligibility criteria for the respective disciplines
- Candidates must have a minimum qualifying Post Graduate Degree in Basic Sciences or Graduate / Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course.
For M.Tech Program
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area or M.Sc. (Computer Science/ Information Technology) or Graduates (AMIETE) with 60%
- Dual MS (Engineering)+PhD in EEE Program
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent in any discipline with a minimum CPI of 7.0 out of 10 or a minimum 70 of marks.
- Having a valid GATE score in any GATE Examination Paper
- The requirement of a valid GATE score is exempted for the Candidates with a qualifying degree as a Bachelor’s (B.Tech./B.Des.) degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0 in a 10-point scale.
Dual MS (Engineering)+PhD in EEE Program
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent in any discipline with a minimum CPI of 7.0 out of 10 or a minimum 70 of marks.
- Having a valid GATE score in any GATE Examination Paper
- The requirement of a valid GATE score is exempted for the Candidates with a qualifying degree as a Bachelor’s (B.Tech./B.Des.) degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0 in a 10-point scale.
Dual M.Tech+PhD in CSE Program
- B.E. or B.Tech. degree or equivalent in any discipline other than Computer Science and Engineering or Information Technology with a minimum CPI of 7.0 out of 10 or a minimum 70% of marks.
- Having a valid GATE score in any GATE Examination Paper.
- The requirement of a valid GATE score is exempted for the Candidates with a qualifying degree as Bachelors (B.Tech./B.Des.) degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with a minimum CPI of 8.0 in a 10-point scale.
For M.Des Program
- Four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture/ Interior Design or a Design related field with a minimum CPI of 6.0 out of 10 or a minimum 60 of marks.
- Four-year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT (5-year program) with a minimum CPI of 6.0 out of 10 or a minimum 60% of marks.
For M.S.(R) in Energy Program
- B.E/ B.Tech./ M.Sc. degree or equivalent in any discipline with a minimum CPI of 6.0 out of 10 or minimum 60 of marks.
For MA in Development Studies Programs
- A Bachelor’s (10+2+3) degree (Major/ Honours) or equivalent from a recognized University, in any discipline, with a minimum of either 50% marks or 5.0 CPI in a 10-point scale (a minimum of either 45% marks or 4.5 CPI in a 10-point scale for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates) in major/honours only.
- Candidates not having Major/Honours courses must have the concerned degree with a minimum of either 50% aggregate marks or 5.0 CPI in a 10-point scale (a minimum of either 45% aggregate marks or 4.5 CPI in a 10-point scale for SC/ ST/ PwD category candidates).
- Candidates still to appear in their qualifying degree examinations may also apply, provided they appear in all their qualifying degree examinations and complete all requirements for their degrees before 15 July 2022.
IIT Guwahati PG Admission 2022 Application Process
- Applications for Doctoral/MTech/MDes/MS(R)/MA programmes should be submitted only online through the Application Portal (https://iitg.ac.in/)
- Applications will not be accepted in any other mode.
- Before submission of applications, please go through the information provided on this admission website carefully.
- Candidates need to register only once on the Application Portal. Under the same login, candidates can submit applications to multiple programmes and disciplines. But, application fee should be paid separately for each application.
- Submission of online application is a three step process. Unless all the three steps are completed, the application will not be treated as complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered for processing.
- Step-1: Personal information including the educational qualifications.
- Step-2: Selection of programmes.
- Step-3: Online payment of application fee.
- For submission of applications to different programmes and disciplines, the candidates have to repeat step-2 and step-3.

Application Fee
- All Female Candidates : Rs.150/-
- All Transgender Candidates : Rs.150/-
- All SC/ ST/ PwD Candidates : Rs.150/-
- All Other Candidates : Rs.300/-
Selection Process
- Applications of the candidates which are complete in all respects will be considered in the selection process.
- The Institute reserves the right to consider a limited number of candidates for the selection process. Such shortlisting will be based on the performance in GATE/NET/CEED, grades/marks in the qualifying degree examination and/or other educational qualifications starting from Class 10.
- For MTech programmes offered through COAP, selection of GATE qualified eligible candidates to the Regular category will be based on the valid GATE score. For other categories of MTech and all other programmes, the selection process involves the performance of candidates in the written test and/or interview conducted by the respective department/school/centre.
- For PhD program, the shortlisting and selection may be done specialization wise by the respective department/school/centre.
