The Rajasthan Agricultural University, formerly a part of the Sukhadia University, Udaipur, became a separate entity on Ist of August 1987 as a consequence of promulgation of an Ordinance (Ordinance No. 13 of 1987) by the Government of Rajasthan which was later enacted by an Act of Rajasthan State Legislation (Act No. 39 of 1987).

Institute of Agri business management offers only master’s degree programme (MBA) and college of home science offers under graduate and masters degree programmes
Admission Process
The admission for the UG and PG degree programmes are notified in important new papers and all colleges of the university. The notification also contains the courses offered at different campuses at UG and PG level and minimum qualifications required for admission, to various programmes.
Admission to B.V.Sc and A.H is made through a state level entrance test, which is combined with entrance test for medical course, which is known as Rajasthan Pre-medical Test and Rajasthan pre-veterinary test. Candidates must have completed the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission for admission to B.V.Sc and A.H programme.
Admission to B.Sc (AG) Hons. And B.Sc (home science) is made through a state level joint entrance test (JET) conducted by the university. One seat in B.Sc (AG) Hons. Programme at SKN college of Agriculture, Jobner is reserved for the candidate nominated by the family of founder of the college, Late Shri Karn Narendra Ji. Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC/Girls/Physically handicapped etc. is made in accordance with the policies of the state government. Presently 16 % seats are reserved for SC students, 12 % for ST students, 21 % for OBC students. Three percent for physically handicapped students are reserved with in each category and 25 % for girl candidates. Two seats in B.V.Sc and A.H programme are reserved for tribal students of Lakshdweep. There is a provision for a payment seat in B.V.Sc and A.H programme. However, admission to these seats is again made trough the rank obtained in the entrance test conducted by the state.
There is a provision for admitting students from outside the state of Rajasthan, through a competitive examination conducted by ICAR and veterinary council of India (VCI) for B.Sc (AG) and B.Sc (home sc) and B.V.Sc and A.H programmes, respectively. Presently, 15 % of seats are earmarked for students coming through ICAR, VCI in all the three programmes. Foreign nationals/NRI’s are also eligible for admission through ICAR and veterinary council of India for admission to B.Sc (AG) Hons and B.Sc home science (through ICAR) and B.V.Sc and A.H (through veterinary council of India).
Admission to M.B.A Agri business is made through a national level test (MAT), followed by a group discussion and an interview. Admission to M.Sc (AG)/M.V.Sc and M.Sc home science programme is made through a pre postgraduate (pre-pg) test.
For admission to PhD programme all the eligible candidates area called and interviewed by a committee consisting of chairman of the faculty, dean, post graduate studies, dean of the colleges, concerned head of the department and a senior faculty member of the discipline. Admission is made as per the merit list prepared on the basis of total points given to the candidate taking following into consideration –
Under graduation examination marks – 30 % weightage
Post graduation examination marks – 60 % weightage
Experience/interview – 10 % weightage.
