CAT 2011 EXAM DATE

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) will be conducting the CAT in October - November 2011 and CAT Advertisement will appear in leading newspapers on August 8 2011.

CAT 2011 will be held in a 20 day window, between October 22 and November 18, 2011. The application fee for taking CAT 2011 will remain the same as last year. There is no change in the fee; it will be Rs. 1400 for the General candidates and Rs. 700 for the SC/ST/OBC candidates.

The Common Admission Test or CAT, the passport of making it to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) is going to be conducted in thirty-two locations however the count of examination centers is going to be lesser. It is because of the longer CAT 2011 examination window. Last Year an aspirant could choose his or her exam date within a period of 11 days Exam Window.

Besides the eight IIMs, there are actually more than 120 management institutions listed with CAT which use the CAT scores for admitting students.

While 2.16 lakh aspirants could satisfactorily appear in the test through the 11-day testing window in 2009, more than 7000 odd students had taken the test in January in 2011 during the 2nd phase because they were not able to take the exam in first phase as a result of virus attacks and hardware issues and had chosen a re-test.

Roy described how the virus attacks that occurred this past year had been due to usage of outdated anti-virus software programs and unlicensed operating systems by many colleges. “We have also given a report to the IIMs on people who were trying to impersonate someone else’s biometrics,” he said.

The number of testing centres and technology partners will be finalised by the end of this month and the IIMs are expected to publish the first advertisement for the test by end of August.
