Admission notice – session 2010-2011

Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) is a deemed-to-be-university and a national level institute established by govt of India through ministry of human resource development. The institute offers unique modular pattern of education in various branches of engineering and technology. The study programmes include various courses at certificate, diploma, degree, M.Tech/PG level. There is a provision for certificate student to enter to diploma and diploma student to degree programme. Details are also available on the institute website http://www.sliet.ac.in. Applications on prescribed form are invited for admission to various programmes at certificate, diploma, degree and M.Tech/PG level through a National level test, to be conducted on 5th and 6th June, 2010 at all major cities of the country

Certificate programme: Servicing and Maintenance of Electronics Instruments; Computer applications; Food technology; Air-conditioning and Refrigeration; Foundry and Forging; Tool and Die Technology; Auto and Farm Machinery; Welding Technology; Servicing and Maintenance of Medical Instruments; Maintenance of Television; Maintenance of Electrical Equipments; Paper and Printing Technology

Duration: 2 years; Eligibility: Matric pass (with pass in Science, Mathematics and English) from a state secondary education board/CBSE/ICSE or equivalent

Diploma programmes: Chemical Technology; Computer Science and Engineering; Computer Science and Applications; Electronics and Communication Engineering; Food Technology; Foundry Technology; Instrumentation and Process Control; Industrial and Production Engineering; Maintenance and Plant Engineering; Welding Technology

Duration: 2 years; Eligibility: 10+2 pass (with Physics, Chemistry and Maths) from recognized board/university or equivalent or certificate holders of SLIET

Degree programmes: Chemical Engineering (Polymer Technology); Chemical Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electronics and Communication Engineering; Food Technology; Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing Engineering); Mechanical Engineering (Welding Technology); Information Technology

Duration: 3 years; Eligibility: Diploma holders from SLIET or from other Polytechnics affiliated with any state board of technical education

 

M.Tech/MBA programmes: Manufacturing System Engineering; Food Engineering and Technology; Instrumentation and Control Engineering; Polymer; Electronics and Communication Engineering; Mechanical Engineering (Welding and Fabrication); Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply

Reservation of seats: Seats are reserved for various categories as mentioned below

Certificate programmes – Punjab state 75%, other states and UT’s – 25%

Diploma programmes – Punjab state 50%, other states and UT’s – 50%

Degree programmes – open at All India level

M.Tech programmes – open at All India level

Statutory reservation (in all above programmes): 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 3% for PH and 27% for OBC (non-creamy layer)

NRI/NRI sponsored: 10% in diploma and degree programmes (over and above the sanctioned seats)

Application form and examination fee: The brochure containing information about the Institute, syllabi for entrance test for different programmes and application form for entrance test is available from February 25, 2010 at SLIET, Longowal (Distt Sangrur)-148106, Punjab on payment of Rs 325/- at the Institute’s counter or through post by sending a bank draft of Rs. 350/- in favour of Director, SLIET, payable at Longowal/ Sangrur. The complete application form along with examination fee (in the form of demand draft or cash receipt) of Rs 500/- (Rs. 250/- for SC/ST) should be sent to the Chairman, SET-2010, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal-148106, Distt Sangrur (Punjab) on or before April 30, 2010

Admission under persons with disability (PwD) scheme

Under this scheme of the govt of India, 25 seats are available in different two years regular Diploma (12 seats) and certificate (13 seats) programmes for persons having more than 40% disability. Candidates who get admission under this scheme are given free education, hostel facilities, scholarships, books, uniform allowances as per limits of this scheme. Interested candidates may apply on the prescribed form (available free of cost). Such candidates shall have to appear for SLIET entrance test – 2010 (SET-I for certificate and SET-II for diploma) to be held at different centres across the country
