Admission notice 2011-12

Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) is a deemed to be university and a national level institute established by govt of India through ministry of human resource development

The institute offers unique modular pattern of education in various branches of engineering and technology

The study programmes include various courses at Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Post Graduate (M.Tech/MBA) level

There is a provision for certificate student to enter to Diploma and Diploma student to Degree programme

Applications on prescribed form are invited for admission to various programmes at Certificate, Diploma, Degree and PG (M.Tech/MBA) level through a national level test to be conducted on 04th-05th June, 2011 at all major cities of the country

Courses offered

Certificate programmes: Servicing and Maintenance of Electronics Instruments, Computer Applications, Food Technology, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Foundry and Forging, Tool and Die Technology, Auto and Farm Machinery, Welding Technology, Servicing and Maintenance of Medical Instruments, Maintenance of Television, Maintenance of Electrical Equipments, Paper and Printing Technology

Duration: 2 years

Eligibility: Matric pass (with pass in Science, Mathematics and English) from a school affiliated and approved by a state secondary education board/CBSE/ICSE or equivalent

Diploma Programme: Chemical Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Applications, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Food Technology, Foundry Technology, Instrumentation and Process Control, Industrial and Production Engineering, Maintenance and Plant Engineering, Welding Technology

 

Duration: 2 years

Eligibility: 10+2 pass (with Physics, Chemistry and Maths) with at least 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) from recognized board/university or equivalent or certificate holders of SLIET

Degree Programmes: Chemical Engineering (Polymer Technology), Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Food Technology, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing Engineering), Mechanical Engineering (Welding Technology), Information Technology

Duration: 3 years

Eligibility: Diploma holders with at least 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) from SLIET or from other Polytechnics affiliated with any state board of technical education

M.Tech/MBA Programmes: Manufacturing System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (specialization in Welding and Fabrication), Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Polymer, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Food Engineering and Technology, Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Duration: 2 years

Eligibility

M.Tech: Bachelor degree in Engineering/Technology in the concerned/allied branch or equivalent

MBA: Bachelor/Post-graduate degree in any discipline (minimum 50% marks, 45% for reserved categories) required in qualifying exam both for M.Tech and MBA

Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply

Reservation of seats: Seats are reserved for various categories as mentioned below

Certificate programmes: Punjab state 75%; other states and UTs 25%

Diploma programme: Punjab state 50%; other states and UTs 50%

Degree and PG programmes: open at all India level

Statutory reservations (in all above programmes): 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 3% for physically handicapped and 27% for OBC (non-creamy layer)

NRI/NRI sponsored: 5% seats of sanctioned strength in Diploma, Degree, PG programmes (for son and daughters of NRIs) subject to approval of AICTE, New Delhi

Latest instructions of govt of India shall apply for statutory/NRI reservations at the time of admission

Application form, examination fee and last date: The brochure containing information about the institute, syllabi for entrance test for different programmes and application form for entrance test is available from 07th March, 2011 at SLIET, Longowal (Distt Sangrur)-148106, Punjab on payment of Rs 350/- at the Institute’s counter or through post by sending a bank draft of Rs 375/- in favour of Director, SLIET, payable at Longowal/Sangrur

The complete application form along with examination fee (in the form of demand draft, Axis bank pay-in-slip or cash receipt) of Rs 600/- (Rs 300/- for SC/ST) should be sent to the chairman, SET-2011, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal-148106, Distt Sangrur, Punjab on or before 30th April, 2011

Information brochure shall also be available at the following Axis bank branches (city’s main branch) throughout the country by cash paymentn of Rs 375/- only from 07th March, 2011

Admission under persons with disability (PwD) scheme: Under this scheme of the govt of India 25 seats are available in different two years regular certificate (13 seats) and diploma (12 seats) programmes for persons having more than 40% disability

Candidates who get admission under this scheme are given free education, hostel facilities, scholarships, books, uniform allowances as per limits of this scheme

Interested candidates may apply on the prescribed form (available free of cost)

Such candidates shall have to appear for SLIET entrance test-2011 (SET-1 for certificate and SET-II for diploma) to be held at different centres across the country
