Russia to deliver five MiG-29K fighters to India
Moscow, Aug 13 Russia’s MiG aircraft maker will deliver a final batch of five MiG-29K/KUB carrier-based fighters to the Indian Navy under a 2004 contract by the end of this year, the company said.
The two countries signed a contract stipulating the supply of 12 single-seat MiG-29Ks and four two-seat MiG-29KUBs to India in January 2004.
The contract is part of a $1.5-billion deal to deliver the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier, currently being retrofitted in Russia for the Indian Navy.

National Institute for Research and Development in Defence Shipbuilding (NIRDESH)
NIRDESH launched in Kerala.
Defence Minister A.K. Antony on January 4, 2011 laid the foundation stone for the National Institute for Research and Development in Defence Shipbuilding (NIRDESH) under the Department of Defence Production at Kozhikode, Kerala.
NIRDESH would concentrate on enhancing self-reliance in production capabilities relating to all kinds of warships, submarines and other related platforms required by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.
The institute would pave the way for achieving enhanced self reliance and also augment the efforts of the Department of Defence Production in developing a robust defence industrial base by providing technology support and promote ancillary industry participation in the defence shipbuilding sector.
