63rd Emmy Awards
‘Modern Family’ stole the show with four wins at the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. It earned Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy honours for stars Ty Burrelll and Julie Bowen, and Best Direction and Best Writing of a Comedy. Mad Men won the best drama Emmy for the fourth consecutive year. Kate Winslet is judged best Actress for ‘Mildred Pierce.’

Cannes Film Festival 2011
Cannes Film Festival 2011 in France was concluded on May 22, 2011. “The Tree of life” an ambitious coming of age film that took years for enigmatic U.S. Director Terrence Malick to bring to the screen.
Dirsten Dunst was adjudged best actress whereas France’s Jean Dujardin is chosen as the best actor.

The Nargis Dutt Award
The Nargis Dutt Award for best Feature Film on National integration has been given to Bengali Film “Moner Manush”. The film is an Indo-Bangladesh collaboration venture. One of the Producers Mr. Habibiur Rehman, is from Bangladesh.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award
The Dadasaeb Phalke Award for the year 2010 which is considered as the Highest Film Award in India is given to Shri K. Balachander, the veteran film maker from Tamil Nadu. The award is conferred by the Government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. The award consists of a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs.10 lakhs and a shawl. The award is given on the recommendations of a committee of eminent persons. He has made films in not one language but in many Tamil, Kannada, Telegu and Hindi.

Iranian Film wins Golden Bear at Berlin Film Festival
Iranian drama ‘Nader and Simin, A Separation’ has won the Golden Bear award for Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival. Director Asghar Farhadi’s film, which also took the best acting prizes, tells the story of a troubled marriage.
The film – which pits one family against another in a legal battle over the care of an elderly man who suffers from incontinence – highlights the gap between middle class and poorer, more traditional Iranians. The Best Actor award (Silver Bear) went to the film’s male ensemble consisting of Peyman Moadi, Ali Asghar Shahbazi, Babak Karimi. The movie’s female ensemble comprising Sareh Bayat, Sarina Farhadi, Leila Hatami picked up the Best Actress award (Silver Bear).
Best Director award (Silver Bear) was won by German Ulrich Kohler who was honoured for his film ‘Sleeping Sickness’, the tale of a corrupt Western aid programme in Africa.

Dabangg sweeps Apsara awards
Salman Khan-starrer ‘Dabangg’ has emerged the biggest winner at this year’s Apsara awards, bagging the Best Film, Best Actor and Best Music trophies.
The film also won singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan the Best Male Singer trophy for “Tere Mast Mast Do Nain.”
The Best Actor—Female award was shared by Vidya Balan for ‘Ishqiya’ and Anushka Sharma for ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’.

Twilight wins at People’s Choice Awards.
Vampire film ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’, TV series House MD and rapper Eminem won four prizes each at the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles on January 6, 2011.
Eclipse’s wins included best movie and best film actress for Kristen Stewart, while British star Hugh Laurie won best actor in a drama for House MD.
Johnny Depp was voted best film actor.

D. Ramanaidu wins Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the Year 2009
Veteran Telugu film producer Dr. Daggubati Ramanaidu, who holds the Guinness Record for making the most number of films, was on September 8, 2010 selected for the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2009. Ramanaidu, who is also an actor and a politician, had made 135 films in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Oriya, Assamese, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali, several of them runaway commercial hits.
