India signs nuclear pact with Russia during PM Singh’s visit

  • India on December 7, 2009 signed a civil nuclear agreement with Russia that will guarantee uninterrupted uranium fuel supplies for its atomic reactors and transfer of technology. The agreements were signed after talks between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at the Kremlin in Moscow.

K. Chandrasekhar Rao breaks fast on Union govt’s assurance

-  Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao called off his 11-day hunger strike on December 10, 2009 following an announcement by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi that the process of formation of Telangana would be initiated by moving a resolution in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

Veerappa Moily gets 21st Moortidevi Award

Union law minister and writer Veerappa Moily has been declared the winner of the prestigious Moortidevi Award, considered the most prestigious literary award in the country after the Bharatiya Jnanpith, for his work ‘Shri Ramayan Mahaniveshanam’.   T N Chaturvedi was the chairman of the award selection board. Moily got the 21st Moortidevi Award.
