Four Indians among MIT’s top 35 innovators

Washington,  Two Indians and two persons of Indian origin figure among Top 35 Innovators under 35 in the latest list of Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Technology Review, the world’s oldest Technology Magazine established in 1899.

Ajit Narayanan, Invention Labs, Chennai and Aishwarya Ratan, Yale University, who were part of TR35 India Winners announced in March 2011, have made it to the annual list of people who exemplify the spirit of innovation in business and technology.

The honourees are blazing new paths in a wide range of fields, including medicine, energy, communications, IT, consumer technology, entertainment, and robotics, Cambridge, Massachusetts, based institution announced Wednesday.

Anna inspires sale of Vivekananda’s books

Shimla,  The man who is galvanising an entire nation against graft was himself inspired by a Hindu monk who preached the message of Indian spirituality to the world. Books on Swami Vivekanada are flying off the shelves in Himachal Pradesh after Anna Hazare repeatedly referred to the philosopher-saint as the guiding light of his life.

“I have specially purchased the book, ‘Vivekananda: A Biography’ by Swami Nikhilananda to understand the ultimate motives of human life,” Parul Sood, a management student at Himachal Pradesh University, told IANS.

“To perceive and execute an idea is the genius of India,” he said at the release of “The India Idea”, a coffee table book on Indian scientific innovations, at Lodi Gardens here late Thursday.

Second book in Shiva trilogy makes many revelations

Mumbai, Aug 11  He calls himself an atheist, but author Amish Tripathi says he was blessed with the bestseller, “The Immortals of Meluha”, by none other than Lord Shiva. Now its sequel promises to make many revelations.

“Interesting revelations will be made about the characters; in fact new facets of the characters will be revealed. Addition of new characters is another given,” Tripathi told  about the upcoming book “The Secret of the Nagas”.

Richness of our language getting lost – Amitabh Bachchan

Mumbai, Aug 11  Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan feels the purity of written and spoken language is subsiding in these times of quick communication but hopes to restore the charm of literature by opening a museum to store his father and noted writer Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s works.

“I do believe that the richness of our language is getting lost. We used to spend a lot of thought and lot of energy behind what was written and spoken. Perhaps, it was a lot richer in earlier times,” Amitabh told IANS in an interview.

“I don’t want to blame today’s generation. The time has changed, communication has become very rapid and very quick,” he added.

Book on women’s cricket released

International Cricket Council (ICC) President Sharad Pawar and Sports Minister Ajay Maken released a coffee table book on women’s cricket, ‘Women’s Cricket World,’ in New Delhi on February 8, 2011.

The book, written by prominent woman cricketer Anjum Chopra and Sunil Yash Kalra, relives the journey of women’s cricket from 1745, the year in which the first recorded match was played.
