Haldia Petrochemicals talking to RIL for market segregation

Kolkata, Aug 19  Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) is trying to enhance its focus on the eastern market along with widening its product range by including low-density polyethylene (LDPE), said a company official Friday. It is also in talks with Reliance Industries Limited for market segregation.

“Fundamentally we are trying to move the market to the east and try selling less in the west. By selling in the west we lose $60 per tonne because of freight charges. We are the market leader in the east with 50 percent market share. Why not increase it to 80 percent?” HPL managing director P.S. Bhattacharyya said here.

TCS arm targets $1 bn revenue by 2015

New Delhi, Aug 19  India’s largest IT services firm Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) Friday said iON — its integrated information technology solution for small and medium business (SMB) — targets a revenue of $1 billion in the next five years.

iON provides on-demand business solutions using cloud computing technology and was launched in the national capital region Friday.

“This is a segment where no one else has focussed on. iON will provide SMBs access to world-class, simple-to-use and scalable technology tools,” said Venguswamy Ramaswamy, global head, iON, TCS.

The company also said that it wants to ramp up over 1,000 customers this year. It currently has over 240 customers across the country.

State run firms become largest in terms of market capitalisation

Mumbai, Aug 19  State-run companies Coal India and ONGC Friday became the most valuable companies by market capitalisation, with the public-owned oil and gas major pushing Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) to third spot in Friday trade.

Coal India was still the most valuable company, having pushed RIL to the second spot earlier in the week. Coal India’s market capitalisation stood at Rs.2,48,896 crore about an hour before end of trade Friday .

ONGC overtook RIL around noon with a market capitalisation of Rs.2,37,757 crore, while the Mukesh Ambani company’s valuation slipped to Rs.2,37,045 crore.

India likely to set 9 percent growth target for next five year plan

New Delhi, Aug 19  India is likely to set a target of 9 percent economic growth during the 12th Five Year Plan, that runs from 2012-13 to 2116-17, when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh chairs a meeting of the full Planning Commission here Saturday.

“We are in favor of choosing a 9 percent economic growth,” Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia told reporters here, ahead of the meeting, called to consider the approach paper of the next five year plan.

The prime minister is the plan panel’s chairman.
