launched the National Green Tribunal (NGT), a special court to deal with environmental
issues, thereby becoming the third country after Australia and New Zealand to do so.
The Direct Taxes Code (DTC) Bill was introduced in Parliament on August 31, 2010. The DTC, which seeks to replace the Income-Tax Act, 1961, is slated to come into force from April 2012 as against the original schedule to shift to DTC from April 2011. The Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, proposes to mainly rationalise the income slabs so as to reduce the overall tax burden. The lower end of the taxpayers, who account for 90 per cent of the income-tax payers, will benefit the most. Major features of the DTC are as follows:

EC announces 6 phase poll for Bihar Assembly
The Election Commission on September 07, 2010 rolled out an unprecedented six-phase polling schedule for the upcoming assembly election of Bihar. Starting October 21, the polling will continue till November 20. The dates for the six phases are: October 21, 24, 28 and November 1, 9 and 20. Polling will take place in 56,943 polling stations spread across the state, which has 5,50,88,402 voters.
