Kuchipudi dancers create Guinness record in A.P.
Over 2,800 Kuchipudi dancers performed the classical Indian dance at Hyderabad’s G M C Balayogi Stadium on December 26, 2010, which created a new Guinness World Record for the assembly of the largest number of such artistes. Representative of the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ announced the new world record has been created by over 2,800 Kuchipudi dancers, most of them children.
The dance was performed in ‘hindola raga’ for over 11 minutes.

January 25 will be National Voters Day
The Election Commission will celebrate its foundation day (January 25) as National Voters Day every year starting from January 25, 2011.
An official release said the objective was to increase enrolment of voters and educate them on the importance of voting. National Voters Day will be celebrated at State, district-level and in every polling station.

India’s first seaplane service launched on December 27, 2010
The first seaplane service in the country named ‘Jal Hans‘ was launched at the Juhu aerodrome in Mumbai on December 27, 2010.
The service will run on the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. A joint venture has been formed between Pawan Hans Helicopters Limited (PHHL) and the Island administration on an equal profit-sharing basis.

Stephen Schwebel to head Kishanganga arbitration court
Judge Stephen M. Schwebel, former President of the International Court of Justice, will head the Court of Arbitration being constituted to resolve the Kishanganga hydroelectric project dispute between India and Pakistan. Judge Schwebel is an expert on international law and dispute settlement. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Judge Schwebel as chairman on October 29, 2010.

Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana approved
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on October 20, 2010 approved the implementation of Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY) on pilot basis in selected 52 districts during the remaining period of 11th Five Year Plan at a total cost of Rs 1000 crore. Under the scheme, Cash transfers will be made to all pregnant and lactating women as incentives based on fulfillment of specific conditions relating to mother and child health and nutrition. Each pregnant and lactating woman will receive a total cash incentive of Rs 4000/- in three installments between the time-period from the second trimester of pregnancy to the child attaining the age of 6 months. All Government/PSUs (Central & State) employees will be excluded from the scheme as they are entitled for paid maternity leave.
