Applications are invited from permanent faculty members working in the University/College/Institute including Medical Institute. The format for applying for this award may be collected from Office of the Registrar/Vice-Chancellor/Director of Institute of the respective University/Institute or from university Grants Commission, New Delhi or from the Regional Offices of University Grants Commission. The commonwealth Fellowships is tenable from a date of October for Post-doctoral/Research/Specialised training in the subjects mentioned below in the United Kingdom .
Engineering & Technology: 1. Computer Studies, 2. Electronics, 3. Environmental Studies, 4. Remote Sensing Technology, 5. Communication Engineering, 6. Bio-Technology/Bio-chemical Engineering and 7. Robotics (including Artificial Intelligence).
Science (Pure and Applied): 1. Mathematics, 2. Molecular Biology, 3. Physics and 4. Chemistry (including Pharmaceutical/Medical Chemistry).
Medical Science: All Branches.
Agriculture: All Branches.

Eligibility
Tenure: A Fellowship is tenable for six months only. The award cannot be extended, nor can a fellowship be split.
Awards are normally available for tenure from October in any year (i.e., the beginning of the academic year in the United Kingdom ).
Method of Nomination: The Commonwealth Fellowships Commission accepts nominations only from:
The Vice-chancellors of the University on whose permanent staff the nominee serves (or has been appointed to serve); by special arrangement, all nominations for heads of Indian universities should be channeled through the Secretary, University Grants Commission, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi-110 002.
The completed nomination forms in duplicate (more copies will be required only if the scholar is selected for nomination to United Kingdom by the University Grants Commission. These copies needs to be sent to Association of Commonwealth Universities, United Kingdom, directly) together with all the required supporting documents, must reach the Deputy Secretary University Grants Commission, New Delhi, not later than a date of October/November.
Applications/nominations must be submitted on the appropriate nomination forms which as stated above. The photocopy of the form may be used. The nomination/application may be forwarded by the Vice-Chancellor/Director/Registrar/Executive Head of the University/Institute/authorised competent authority of the concerned institution.
Direct applications from candidates will not be accepted/entertained by the commission.
Placing in University or Other Institutions: Candidates and sponsors may indicate their own preferences for particular places to carry out the proposed study programme and if they have already made independent approaches to universities in the United Kingdom, or have received offers of places, this should be reported to the commission as should any official and relevant links between the Indian University and any Institution in Britain.
The Fellowship is not tenable at any Institution or for any programme of study other than that approved by the Commission and named in the formal letter of award.
Medicine & Dentistry: Medically qualified applicants whose programme requires them to practise clinically, or to work in a laboratory department reporting on samples from patients, can be considered only if they are eligible for registration with the General Medical Council or the General Dental Council. Under new regulations, candidates requiring Registration with the General Medical Council and whose primary medical qualification is recognised only for limited registration with GMC will be required to show competence in the English Language by reaching a satisfactory standard in the IELTS English Language test. However, those who have previously held registration with the General Medical Council to practise in United Kingdom will not be required by the GMC to take the IELTS test.
The decision of the Commission to nominate scholar for the award of Commonwealth Fellowship will be final.
