ADMISSION OF JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP
- There is a look out for students to be admitted as Junior Scholars in the Integrated Ph.D programme for Bachelor students with a strong motivation for research.
- Areas of Study: Research is carried out in Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Structural Biology, Neurosciences, Molecular Genetics, Cancer and Virology. The methodologies used include spectroscopy, microscopy and imaging, molecular biology, genetics, protein design and engineering, immunology, computer modeling, electro physiology and biophysics.
- Requirements: Applications are invited from students with a B.Sc degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or any branch of biology. An excellent academic record (minimally a good first class) and a motivation for research are essential. Students appearing for their degree examination in May/June in the year concerned are also eligible for admission.
- Financial Assistance: Junior Scholars will be paid a fixed monthly scholarship of Rs. 4,000 p.m. initially. There is an annual contingency education grant of Rs. 2000. The admissions are made for a year at a time but are renewable annually. Candidates called for interview from outstation will be paid 1/3 rd railway fare each way by ordinary second class (sleeper class for travel beyond 500 kms) and a sum of Rs. 105 as halting allowance for the day on which they are interviewed.
- How to Apply: Prescribed application forms can be obtained by writing to the Administrative Officer, NCBS, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, GKVK campus, Bangalore-560065. A written request for application forms should be sent along with a self-addressed stamped (Rs. 6) envelope of approximately 12” * 10”. Please superscribe your envelope JS-99. A crossed Demand Draft of Rs. 100 in favour of “National Centre for Biological Science, Bangalore” must be enclosed. The fee may be waived in cases of economic hardship if supported by a letter from the Head of Department or College Principal. Candidates shortlisted for written test and interview will be intimated by post.
Last date for receipt of completed application is a date of March.
Notifications for the programme are issued in February.
