TEST FOR ADMISSION TO MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
(MCA) PROGRAMME IN NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
(NITs)

Applications
in the prescribed format are invited for a common
entrance test for admission to MCA Programme for the
session 2005-06 in the following NITs:
MNNIT
Allahabad ,MANIT Bhopal,NIT Calicut,NIT Durgapur,NIT
Jamshedpur, NIT Rourkela, NITK Surathkal, NIT Tiruchirappalli,
NIT Warangal
Candidates
with a Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration
from a recognized University in any
discipline
with Mathematics at 10 + 2 level or Bachelor's level
are eligible. Those candidates who are appearing for
the qualifying examinations in 2005 are also eligible
to appear for the test. However, they will have to
furnish proof of having passed in the qualifying examination
at the time of admission. Indian Nationals only are
eligible to appear for the NIMCET 2005.
MODE OF SELECTION
Admission
to the MCA Programme at the above mentioned NITs is
based on the rank obtained by the candidates in the
NIMCET 05 and as per the criteria of selection prescribed
by the respective NITs. This advertisement is for
the NIMCET 05 ONLY. Candidates have to apply to the
respective NITs separately for admission.

Kolkata, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Rourkela, Surat,
Surathkal, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchirappalli and
Warangal.
(NOTE:
This is a tentative list of Centres. Some centers
may be cancelled if enough number of candidates do
not opt for the Center)
HOW
TO APPLY:
(a) For
NIMCET 05
Candidates
can download the Application form, Detailed Syllabus
for the Test and Information Brochure from the following

However, candidates who desire to obtain the application
form by post need to send a self addressed stamped
(Rs. 5/-) envelope of size 10" x 4" to the
Convenor - NIMCET 05, NIT, Tiruchirappalli - 620015.
Duly filled in applications should be sent to the
Convenor NIMCET 05, NIT, Tiruchirappalli - 620015,
along with Entrance Test fee of Rs. 300/-- (Rs. 150/-
for SC/ST) as a crossed demand draft drawn on any
nationalized banks in favour of "NIMCET 05"
payable at Tiruchirappalli.
(b)
For Admission to NITs:
Candidates
qualified at NIMCET 05 can apply for admission to
MCA Programme of respective NITs of their choice by
paying Rs. 400/- (Rs. 200/- for SC/ST) in response
to their advertisements separately (to be published
later).
Those candidates
who have applied earlier in response to Advertisement
No. 13/2004 of NIT, Tiruchirappalli need not apply
again for NIMCET 05 and admission to NIT Tiruchirappalli.
However, such candidates who are desirous of getting
admission to other NITs need to apply separately to
the respective NITs.
Availability
of NIMCET 05 application forms from the websites listed
above or Office of the Convenor, NIMCET 05, NIT, Tiruchirappalli
.. 10th March 2005.
Last date
for receipt of duly filled in application forms along
with the requisite DD Date & Time of Examination

SYLLABUS FOR NIMCET ‘05
(DURATION
: 3 Hours)
MATHEMATICS
(90 QUESTIONS) :
1.
Set Theory

Group Theory

Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansions, Factorization,
simultaneous linear/quadratic equations, indices,
logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions,
binomial theorem, permutations and combinations, surds,
determinants, matrices and application to solution
of simultaneous linear equations.
4.
Coordinate Geometry : Rectangular Cartesian coordinates,
equations of a line, midpoint, intersections etc.,
equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of
straight lines, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, simple
geometric transformations such as translation, rotation,
scaling.
5.
Calculus : Limit of functions, continuous functions,
differentiation of functions tangents and normals,
simple examples of maxima and minima. Integration
of function by parts, by substitution and by partial
fraction, definite integrals, applications of Definite
Integrals to areas.
6.
Differential Equations : Differential equations of
first order and their solutions, linear differential
equations with constant coefficients, homogenous linear
differential equations.

Vector : Position Vector, additions and subtraction
of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications
to simple geometrical problems and mechanics.

Trigonometry : Simple identities, trigonometric equations,
properties of triangles, solution of triangles, height
and distance, inverse function, Inverse Trigonometric
functions, General solutions of trigono metric equations,

Probability and Statistics : Basic concepts of probability
theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events,
frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions,
skewness and kurtosis.
ANALYTICAL
ABILITY AND LOGICAL REASONING(70 QUESTIONS) :
The
questions in this section will cover logical reasoning,
quantitative reasoning.
COMPUTER
AWARENESS(20 QUESTIONS) :
1.
Computer Basics : Organization of a Computer,
Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of instructions
in CPU, input/output devices, computer memory, memory
organization, back- up devices.
2.
Data Representation : Representation
of characters, integers and fractions, binary and
hexadecimal representations, Binary Arithmetic: Addition,
subtraction, division, multiplication, single arithmetic
and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point
representation of numbers, normalized floating point
representation, Boolean algebra,truth tables, Venn
diagrams.
