Admission Notice-2012

Masters Programme in Business Administration (MBA) (2 year Full time) 2012-2014

Applications are invited for admission to the PG course of studies in Business Administration (MBA) approved by UGC and AICTE for the academic session 2012-14

The University of Burdwan is the second university in the eastern region to introduce the MBA course way back in 1984 on the recommendation of AICTE

Situated in a sprawling natural surrounding, it has many large and medium scale industrial undertakings both at the public and at the private sectors within its territorial jurisdiction

While these undertakings extend support to the university programme, university imparts management education in specific lines to cater the needs of the industries

It not only facilitates problem solving in the industries but also opens up placement avenues for our students

The programme is divided into four semesters each of six months duration

Besides, regular semester curricula, the department offers special papers in different management areas

The teaching methodology in the main includes classroom lectures, discussions, computer applications, seminar talks and project work etc

These besides, real life cases are presented and management films are shown to make students familiar with problems in industries and organizations

The passouts of this department have been recruited by the leading corporate houses of the country and abroad like Oracle, IBM, Ernst and Young, IPCL, Reuter, Crisil, SEBI, JP Morgan, HSBC, Vodafone, IDBI, Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank, Vijaya Bank, Bank of India, UBI, Visva Bharati, NIT, BIT, West Bengal Power Development Corporation, West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd, Wipro, Ranbaxy, Godrej India, ACC, Exide India Ltd, Patton Industries, HUL, Cadbury, Coca Cola, Times of India, Big Bazaar and many more

Eligibility: Graduates in Arts, Commerce, Science and in any other branch of Social Science in the 10+2+3 mode; or graduates in Engineering, Technology, Medicine, Pharmacy and Agriculture

Selection Procedure: Candidates are selected on the basis of scores in written test that includes MAT/ CAT/ GMAT/ XAT conducted by the respective agencies and group discussion and viva-voce conducted by the Department (short listed candidates on the basis of the written test score are called for group discussion and Viva-voce)

Final selection is made on the basis of total marks obtained in group discussion, Viva-voce and written test scores taken together

How to apply: Eligible candidates, willing to apply for this programme, must obtain the university application form

This form may be obtained in person or anybody on his/her behalf from the university sales counter at Rajbati, Burdwan University on payment of Rs 150/- in cash and on production of the relevant degree marksheet (original or attested Xerox copy thereof) between 11.00 a.m. and 02.00 p.m. on all university week days from 24th April, 2012

Request of outstation candidates for sending forms by post must reach the Secretary, Faculty Council (Arts, etc), the University of Burdwan, Rajbati, Burdwan-713104 within 22nd May, 2012

Candidates obtaining the form from the university website are compulsorily required to submit a demand draft for Rs 150/- favouring Finance Officer, the University of Burdwan payable at SBI, Burdwan

If you wish to obtain the receipt, please enclose a self addressed stamped (Rs 5/-) envelope so that we can send the receipt to you by post

You will be required to submit your valid MAT/CAT/XAT/GMAT/CMAT score card (MAT September 2011, December-2011, February-2012 and May-2012)

While filling the relevant columns please don’t forget to mention the details of MAT/ CAT/XAT/ GMAT on the university form

Application Submission: As you fill in the university form, please enclose, attested Xerox copies of the mark sheets of all the public examinations passed by you, attested Xerox copy of Madhyamik Admit card, attested Xerox copy of the SC/ST/PH certificate from appropriate authorities in case you belong to those communities, and a photocopy of valid scorecards of CAT/MAT/XAT/GMAT/CMAT

Get your receipt of the form submitted duly signed by the Receiving Assistant of the Office

If you send it by post, address it to the Secretary, Faculty Council (Arts etc), the University of Burdwan, Rajbati, Burdwan-713104, West Bengal and since you will be wishing to obtain the receipt, please enclose a self addressed stamped (Rs 5/-) envelope so that we can send the receipt to you by post

Viva-voce/Group Discussion: The short list with the schedule of holding Viva-voce and group discussion will be displayed at the Office of the Secretary, Faculty Council (Arts) on 15th June, 2012 and will also be available at the university website www.buruniv.ac.in

No postal communication will be made in this regard
