The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is a University Grants Commission, Government of India funded Deemed University that works towards creating a people-centered, ecologically sustainable and Just society. The TISS hosts 6 schools and 4 independent centers offering 16 highly competitive, socially relevant professional post-graduate courses and vibrant M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes. The Institute has over 130 full-time faculty members involved in teaching, research, policy influencing and institution building activities. The Institute has over 1150 masters and doctoral students; and was accorded a 5-star rating by NAAC.
The TISS announces admission to the following
Post-graduate degree programme, 2010-2012
(1) Social work (SW), (2) Disability Studies and Action (DSA), (3) Development Studies (DS), (4) Education (Elementary) (EE), (5) Counseling (CL), (6) Women’s Studies (WS), (7) Human Resources Management and Labour Relations (HRM), (8) Social Entrepreneurship (SE), (9) Globalisation and Labour (GL), (10) Public Health – Health Policy, Economics and Finance (PHHP), (11) Public Health – Social Epidemiology (PHSE), (12) Health Administration (HE), (13) Hospital Administration (HO), (14) Habitat Policy and Practice (HPP), (15) Disaster Management (DM), (16) Media and Cultural Studies (MCS)
Eligibility: A Bachelor’s degree of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognized University, in any discipline.
Notes: Candidtes pursuing and completing their final year degree examination by June 12, 2010 [except M.A. in Education (Elementary)] are also eligible to apply, provided they have no backlog in the exams of previous years at the time of submission of application. For M.A. in Education (Elementary) the date for completion of the requirements of their final year degree exams is May 15, 2010.
For programmes sl no. 10, 11, 12 & 13 only those who have completed graduation can apply. Medical graduates doing their internship should complete it by June 12, 2010.
Test Centres: Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Ranchi and Srinagar.
The Institute may cancel any test centre and/or may assign a nearby centre instead of the centre indicated by the candidate, if situation demands.
Application forms and information brochure - Candidates can apply for a maximum of three programmes. Cost of application form is Rs. 750/- per programme. Demand Draft (DD) should be drawn in favour of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, payable at Mumbai.

Unemployed SC and ST candidates whose parents’ annual income not exceeding Rs. One lakh during 2008-2009 can get the application form free of cost by submitting copy of Caste/Tribe and Income Certificates.

Deputed candidates: Officers deputed by the Central Government, State Governments and autonomous organizations for any of the 16 programmes have to appear for the written test and if qualified, appear for the personal interview, along with other candidates. Officials/teachers and Resource Persons applying for the M.A. in Education (Elementary) programme will be selected through a suitable screening process comprising documentary evidence of interest and motivation for the programme or an interview.
Reservations: Government of India norms will be applicable for admission of SC/ST/OBC/Persons with Disability. TISS has limited hostel seats now, but supports students to find accommodation closer to the institute.
All SC, ST and OBC candidates can avail free Admission Test Orientation programme scheduled for 13 to 15th November in Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata or Mumbai
