The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is the Doctoral Programme of the IIMs
What does offer?
- FPM provides an opportunity for inter-disciplinary education and research in management. It aims to develop top quality researchers and faculty resources for leading academic institutes, and management experts and thinkers for business organizations, industry, government, and society for both local and international markets.
- FPM offers a unique opportunity to interact with highly motivated and intellectual faculty and students working in diverse areas. There is scope to build professional relationships with national and international originations working on leading edge management issues.
- The academic environment at IIMs helps participants to develop and sharpen their own intellect. The unique pedagogy and programme structure provide enriching environment for personal and professional growth.
What placements can FPMs expect?
In the past, Fellows from IIMs been placed in:
- Indian education institutions such as IIMs and other leading management institutes and universities around the world as faculty members.
- Domestic and international companies, such as ICICI, TCS, AT Kearney, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Infosys, IBM, etc., for consulting and corporate think tank positions.

Who can apply?
Scholarly pursuit requires above all a passion for knowledge and the perseverance to develop ideas and paradigms. FPM aims to admit individuals with exceptional academic background, strong motivation, and potential to become excellent researches at international levels. The applicants are therefore evaluated on a variety of criteria including, past academic achievements, scores on standard test, and a personal interview with faculty.
Eligibility
Eligibility varies in different IIMs. It includes:
- Post-graduation with Institute-specific cut-off
- B.E/B.Tech. With Institute for any of the above examinations in any relevant discipline can also apply.
- CA, ICWA, CS, and other professional qualifications with institute-specific cut-off
- Minimum scores in secondary and higher secondary with institute-specific cut-off.
Interested candidates are required to take the common Admission Test (CAT) of IIMs or GMAT/GRE/GATE/UGC-JRF for some of the specific areas. For CAT details refer to the advertisement that has appeared in leading dailies on 15 July 2007.
There are some provisions for the PGP alumni of IIMs to apply directly and seek waiver of the first year.
What financial support does FPM offer?
Institute-specific monthly fellowship ranging from Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 15,000 is provided to the students. In additions to this, they are offered an annual contingency grant for buying books/ hardware/software, etc, and financial support for attending national and international conferences. IIMs also offer opportunities to students to apply for a variety of awards and fellowships instituted by various corporate houses. No tuition fee is charged.
The duration of FPM is normally four years.
