Eligibility criteria

Nationality/citizenship: A candidate must be either (i) a citizen of India or (ii) a subject of Nepal or (iii) a subject of Bhutan or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the govt of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination/interview conducted by the Bank/IBPS but on final selection the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the govt of India

Educational qualification: Minimum 60% marks for science graduates (55% for SC/ST/PWD) and 55% for graduates in other streams (50% for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the govt of India with the same percentages as stipulated above

Candidates with additional qualifications as MBA, CA, CFA, MCA etc shall be preferred

The candidate must possess the requisite educational qualification as on 01.10.2010

Computer literacy; the basic knowledge in operating computer systems in windows mode, knowledge of MS-word/office, spread sheets like MS-Excel and Internet and E-mail familiarity is an essential qualification which a candidate must either possess before joining the bank services or acquire the same within a period of 6 months of joining the bank, in case the candidate is selected for appointment. For this purpose, the candidate is required to submit a certificate in support of this computer related qualification

Age: Minimum age 21 years, maximum age 30 years as on 01.10.2010 i.e. applicants should have been born between 30.09.1980 and 01.10.1989 (both days inclusive)

Relaxation in upper age limit: SC/ST candidates by 5 years; Ex-servicemen and commissioned officers including ECOs/SSCOs by 5 years; OBC candidates by 3 years; all persons who have ordinarily been domiciled in Kashmir Division of J&K state during 01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989 by 5 years; PwD category candidates by 15 years for SC/ST, by 13 years for OBC, by 10 years for General

Selection procedure: The selection will be made on the basis of performance in written test and interview. The details of the written test shall be communicated to the candidates in advance

Written test

Objective tests (duration 135 minutes): General Awareness; English; Quantitative Aptitude; Reasoning

The candidates shall be required to qualify in each objective test as per cut-off marks determined on the basis of group performance in each test subject to minimum 40% marks (35% in case of SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates) in aggregate out of 200 marks of the objective test

Wrong answers given in the objective test will result in negative marks

Descriptive test: It will consist of 4 questions out of which the candidates are required to attempt 3 questions only. The test will be of 60 marks (i.e. 20 marks for each question). The minimum passing marks would be 40% for general category candidates and 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates

Time duration for the test will be 45 minutes. However, the test will be only qualifying and the marks obtained therein shall not be reckoned for preparing the merit list. The candidates shall have the option to answer the descriptive test either in English or Hindi

Written test centres: The written test for probationary officers will be scheduled at the following centres and the address of the venue will be advised in the call letters

Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jaipur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi

Request for change of centre of examination shall not be entertained

Bank reserves the right to cancel any of the centres and/or add some other centres, depending upon the response, administrative feasibility, etc. The bank also reserves the right to allot the candidate to any of the centres other than the one he/she has opted for

Pre-examination training: It is proposed to impart free pre-examination training to a limited number of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Minority communities at Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai centres at the discretion of the Bank. An eligible candidate who wishes to avail of pre-examination training should fill in the relevant column in the application format. All expenses regarding traveling, boarding, lodging etc will be borne by the candidate for attending the pre-examination training programme at the concerned training centre

Application fee (including postage charge) (non-refundable): For SC/ST/PwD candidates Rs 50/- (for postage); for all others (including OBC) Rs 400/- (350 + 50 for postage)

Requisite application fee may be paid at any of the branch of the oriental bank of commerce only in current A/c number 00071011002154 from 11.10.2010 to 10.11.2010

The Bank is free to reject any application, at any stage of the recruitment process, if the candidate is found ineligible for the post. The decision of the Bank in any matter relating to recruitment at all the stages of the recruitment process will be final and binding upon the candidate. No correspondence or personal queries in this regard shall be entertained by the Bank

Only candidates willing to serve anywhere in India need apply

Any dispute arising out of this advertisement shall be subject to the sole jurisdiction of courts situated at NCT of Delhi

All candidates will have to produce, if called for interview, originals as well as attested photocopies of their educational and experience certificates as well as caste certificate, certificate of handicap or any other certificate in support of their eligibility, failing which their candidature will be cancelled

Candidates serving in govt/public sector undertakings (including banks) must produce a no objection certificate from their employer if called for interview, failing which their candidature may not be considered

Any request for change of address will not be entertained

Candidates will appear for the written examination at the allotted centres at their own expense and risk and the Bank will not be responsible for any injury/losses etc of any nature

Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their being declared medically fit as per the requirements of the Bank. Such appointment will also be subject to the service and conduct rules of the Bank

How to apply: Application fee may be paid in cash at any of the Bank’s branches. After payment, the candidate must collect the payment receipt; the particulars thereof are to be quoted in the application and the original receipt must be produced along with the call letter at the time of the written test

Guidelines for filling application are as: Candidates should have a valid email ID. This will help him/her in getting call letter/interview advices etc by email

Candidate must ensure that on deposit of fee, the branch issues him a receipt which should invariably mention under-noted items; (i) receipt number (ii) branch name (iii) branch code number (iv) date of deposit and (v) amount

The payment of fees should be made on or before 10.11.2010. This date will be same for the candidates belonging to far-flung areas

Applications once made will not be allowed to be withdrawn and the application fee/ postage once paid shall not be refunded nor shall it be held in reserve for any other examination

Candidates should keep a copy of the application printout and payment receipt (receipt number) for their record. An Information Handout will be sent to the candidates along with the call letter for written test. Candidates serving in gov/quasi govt offices, public sector undertakings including Nationalized Banks and Financial Institutions will be required to submit no objection certificate from the employer at the time of interview, failing which their candidature may not be considered and traveling expenses, if any other admissible, will not be paid

Original payment receipt will have to be submitted with the call letter at the time of written examination

Call letters for the written examination: All eligible candidates will be issued call letters by the Bank at the correspondence address given by the candidate in the application form. The duplicate call letters can be downloaded from the banks website between 20.12.2010 and 25.12.2010
