Announces the launch of a new 5 (3+2) years integrated M.Sc in Earth Science from the academic year 2010
The Department of Geology, a centre of Advanced studies (CAS), is a premier Earth Science Department of the country with faculty members of diverse specializations
The achievements of the department are also acknowledged by various funding agencies viz., DST, UGC under FIST and COSIST programmes
The department offers 3 years B.Sc (Hons) and 2 years M.Sc (Geology), courses
In addition, the Department also offers M.Phil., and Ph.D programmes on state-of-the art earth science discipline
Realizing the demand for earth scientists in the growing economy of the country the department is offering 5-year integrated M.Sc in Earth Science course from current academic session (2010-11)
Students admitted under this new course will get the scope of specialization in Geo-Exploration (Mineral, Oil and Coal), Active Tectonics and Seismicity, Climate change, Carbon Sequestration, Geochemistry, Environmental Geosciences, Solid Earth Geophysics, Geoinformatics, Natural Hazards and Engineering Geology
The department is well equipped with all major equipments needed for earth science teaching and research e.g. AAS (GF), XRD, Leitz Orthoplan and Zeiss Universal transmitted/reflected light and Wild M8 microscope, CL equipment, Carbon and sulfur analyzer, Carl-zeiss SEM with EDS, Heating-Freezing stage on Leica DMLP microscope, Mineral Separation and section cutting equipments, Server and computers, including latest Remote sensing, GIS and other computational softwares
The programme will have student strength of 25 (twenty five)
Eligibility through category 1: IIT-JEE merit list or category 2: passed 10+2 (Maths group based on merit and availability of seats after category 1)
There is a provision to exit after 3 years on successful completion with B.Sc degree in Earth Science
