Admission to 4-semester M.Tech degree courses 2011

Rules, procedure and other details for admission to 4-Semester M.Tech degree courses are as under

The application form format for admission to a particular course comprises the abstract form and the relevant application form for admission

The last date for receipt of duly filled in application is 13.06.2011 by 5.00 p.m. It must be addressed to the Dean (Academic), National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra-136119, as mentioned in the application form

Merit list will be displayed on the Institute website by concerned department on 20.06.2011

Interviews for admissions will take place as per the given counseling schedule. No separate interview letters will be issued

A candidate who furnishes particulars which are found to be false or suppresses material information, will not be considered for admission and if he/she is admitted on such information, not withstanding legal action under the law of the land, his/her admission shall be cancelled and all fees deposited by him/her forfeited







Before accepting the admission, the candidate must also ensure that he/she fulfills the minimum eligibility conditions

The Institute: National Institute of Technology (Institution of National Importance), Kurukshetra (erstwhile regional engineering college, Kurukshetra established in 1963 a joint and cooperative enterprise of the govt of India and the state of Haryana) earned its current status on June 26, 2002. The Institute has the objective of imparting instructions and research facilities in different disciplines of engineering and technology for the advancement of learning and dissemination of technical knowledge and to provide continuous industrial interaction. The Institute is financially and administratively controlled by the govt of India, MHRD, New Delhi. It is registered under the societies act managed and governed by an autonomous Board of Governors vested with full powers for administration and management of affairs of the Institute. At present, it offers courses of study leading to the 4-year B.Tech degree in Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics and Comm., Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management and Information Technology, 2-year M.Tech. Degree in Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics and Comm., Instrumentation and Nano-Technology and Ph.D Degree in all above disciplines and in the various fields of Applied Sciences and Humanities

Courses of study

M.Tech degree courses: Courses of study are offered in the following disciplines and specializations

Department specialization

Civil Engineering: Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering

Electrical Engineering: Control System, Power System, Power Electronics and Drives

Electronics and Comm.: Electronics and Comm. Engineering, VLSI Design*

Mechanical Engineering: Industrial and Production Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Machine Design

Physics: Instrumentation, Nano-Technology

Computer Engineering: Computer Engineering

(*GATE scholarship would be awarded subject to approval for the same from MHRD, govt of India, New Delhi)

Teaching in each academic year is divided into two semesters. The duration of the course is four semesters for regular students and six semesters for part-time students

All the admitted candidates would be governed by the academic regulations for post-graduate programmes, as laid down by the National Institute of Technology (Institution of National Importance), Kurukshetra

Procedure and admission rules for M.Tech degree courses

Eligibility for admission: A candidate for being eligible for admission to the Master of Technology courses in National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra should have passed B.Sc. (Engg.)/B.Tech/B.E. Degree or equivalent examination in the relevant discipline

B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc.(Engg.)/B.Arch. degrees of Indian universities which in terms of university grants commission act defined as universities/Institutions, deemed to be university are recognized as equivalent to the corresponding examination of the affiliating university provided the candidates concerned have passed these examinations by pursuing regular courses of studies

A candidate should have at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in qualifying examination such as B.Sc (Engg)/B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc degree examination (50% marks or equivalent CGPA for SC/ST candidates) on the basis of which the admission is being sought. For AMIE, the minimum requirement shall be 55% marks in degree

The sponsored candidates also shall have minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in the qualifying degree examination (50% marks or equivalent CGPA eligibility for SC/ST candidates). In addition, the sponsored candidates should have on the last date of applying, an experience of at least two years in the organization(s) of the types specified, out of which at least one year continuous experience should be as regular employee in the sponsoring organization

Basis for selection: A merit list of the eligible candidates will be drawn on the basis of their valid GATE score only (i.e. 100% weightage to GATE score and no weightage to qualifying degree marks)

Provisional admission in M.Tech is allowed for those students having valid GATE score and B.Tech/BE 7th semester result. For those coming from science stream and annual examination system, the results of the previous year be considered. However, these students will furnish an undertaking to the effect that their admissions will be regularized only after clearance of the final examination and compliance to the academic qualifying requirements by the 15th September, 2011

Seats will first be filled by GATE qualified candidates and the remaining vacant seats, if any, shall be offered to other candidates on the basis of their marks or CGPA in the qualifying examination. Non-GATE candidates, however, shall not be considered for any scholarship as per latest MHRD guidelines

For candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from a university other than this Institute i.e. NIT Kurukshetra, a migration certificate will have to be submitted ordinarily within one month of admission. In case the migration certificate is not submitted by the date specified the provisional admission of the student is likely to be cancelled as per Institute rules

Duration of course: The normal duration of course shall be four semesters for regular students and six semesters for part-time students

The courses are open to part-time candidates also if they are otherwise eligible under Institute’s rules and the duration of studies for them will be of 6 semesters. A part time candidate shall mean a person engaged in teaching/research/engineering profession. Sponsored candidates of the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra holding regular posts and served at least for two year in the Institute seeking admission to M.Tech degree course, as a part time candidate will pay only registration fee and continuation fee

Submission of application: Candidates seeking admission in more than one discipline/Department, should submit separate application complete in all respects, for each discipline/Department

The application complete in all respects should reach the Dean (Academic), National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra-136119, on or before 13th June 2011 upto 5.00 pm

Applications received late due to postal/courier delay or otherwise or those do not furnish complete particulars or, do not enclose all the documents indicated in the application form, will not be considered

Admission: Only those candidates who present themselves personally as per the following counseling schedule along with the originals of all the documents will be considered for admission. Four passport size photographs of 5 cm x 7cm will also be required at the time of admission

Counselling schedule at NIT Kurukshetra for M.Tech admissions 2011-2012

GATE and sponsored candidates (from the merit list of the eligible candidates): 27th June 2011 (Monday) 9.30 am

GATE and sponsored candidates (for seats falling vacant, if any, after 1st round of counseling, and from the waiting list of the eligible candidates who were present in 1st round and did not get admission. No fresh candidates would be considered): 7th July 2011 (Thursday) 9.30 am

GATE and sponsored candidates (for seats falling vacant, if any, after 2nd round of counseling, and from the waiting list of the eligible candidates who were present in 2nd round and did not get admission. No fresh candidates would be considered): 14th July 2011 (Thursday) 9.30 am

Non-GATE candidates (for seats falling vacant, if any, after counseling of GATE and sponsored candidates, and from the merit list of the eligible candidates)

Venue for counseling shall remain the department in which admission is desired

The admitted candidates will be required to deposit fees, securities etc in the form of bank draft(s) in favour of Director NIT Kurukshetra payable at Kurukshetra on the spot at the time of admission
