About the Institute

The Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management was established at New Delhi in 1983 under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture primarily to serve as a Human Resource Wing of the Ministry of Tourism. It is a premier centre of excellence for education, training and research in Tourism, Travel and Cargo. A centre for Eastern India was opened at Bhubaneswar in 1996. A centre at Delhi became operational in July 2007.

Being a specialized centre for education, training, research and consultancy in the tourism and travel sector, the MBA programme provides specializations in Air fares and Ticketing, Air Cargo Operations, Tour Operations, Marketing. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, has also entrusted the Institute to conduct regional level guide training programmes for all the regions of the country. The Institute celebrated its silver jubilee in 2007 to mark its purposeful existence in the service of the nation.

Reputed Companies from all over India come to IITTM each year to recruit students for summer internship and final placements. The placement committee maintains a constructive relationship with potential employers and encourages them to interact with students frequently for a better understanding between the employers and the students.







When are notifications advertised and forms given?

The notification for the courses are advertised in the leading newspapers in February. You need to download the application form from the website and send the completed form along with a DD of Rs. 700/- in favour of the Director IITTM, payable at Gwalior. This has to be sent to the Chairman-Admissions, IITTM to the above mentioned address. The last date for completed application forms is in the first week of April.

Eligibility

Graduation in any discipline. Candidates appearing in final year graduation exam may also apply subject to the conditions.

Entrance Examination

Admission to the PGDTM programme is made on the basis of overall performance in an aptitude test held in the second week of May, Group discussion, and personal interview. The test is conducted at Gwalior, Bhubaneshwar, New Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Patna, Mumbai, Kolkata and Jaipur.

Short-listed students have to appear for GD and PI during June 16-19, conducted at Gwalior, Bhubaneswar and New Delhi.

IITTM accepts CAT scores as well.

Pattern of examination

The written test consists of sections on English ability, Quantitative ability, Reasoning and Awareness of national and global issues. There are a total 200 questions to be answered in 150 minutes. Wrong answers carry negative marks.

Courses

IITTM offers four types of Post Graduate Diploma Programmes (PGDM) at three locations:

Gwalior-PGDM (Tourism and Travel), PGDM (Services) and PGDM (International Business)

▪ Bhubaneshwar-PGDM (Tourism and Travel) and PGDM (International Business)

▪ Nellore and New Delhi-PGDM (Tourism and Leisure)

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) with Travel and Tourism is accredited by AICTE and equivalent to MBA. It focuses on management of business in tourism and travel sectors. The 12 months PGDTM is a full time course for graduates from all disciplines. This programme trains young men and women for taking up employment in business organizations or self employment and/or carrying forward their family business.

IITTM also offers short-duration programmes designed to provide state-of-the-art training to update working executives whose formal education was completed some years ago. This encompasses various areas focused on the synergy between the participant’s personal growth and the organization’s development. The Institute also conducts training courses and capacity building programmes for service providers being sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. The Institute has conducted many tailor-made programmes for State and Central Government departments/autonomous bodies in their centres at Gwalior, Bhubaneswar, Delhi and Goa as well as in places like Ahmedabad, Konark, Itanagar, Port Blair, Guwahati, Kohima, Agra etc.

How to prepare for the examination?

English: To prepare for the vocabulary and English Usage section, you must increase your knowledge of the English language. Try to focus on the general meaning and structure of the sentence. Prepare from books by Thomas and Martinet, Neffield, Wren and Martin. You could also study from ‘Objective English’ by Prasad, and ‘English is Easy’ by Chetan Anand. Do some exercises of usage and comprehension from SAT by Barron.

QA and Reasoning: For Mathematics, you could prepare from books by Krishna, R.D. Sharma and objective Mathematics by Tata McGraw Hill publishers. You can brush up your reasoning skills from Verbal and Non verbal Reasoning by R.S. Agarwal and books by Edgar Thorpe.

General Knowledge: Questions on General knowledge test your current awareness of situations happening in India and around the world. Read the newspapers daily and maintain a scrap book of major events. You could also brush up your General Knowledge from current affairs magazines, Manorama or CSR yearbook.
