Master of Science in Information Technology (M.Sc-IT) 2 years

Course description: Master of Science in Information Technology is the flagship programme offered by the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala and aims at high standards in basic and applied sciences, technology, management and information system. The programme focuses on a broad grasp of foundations in Computer Science and IT, deep understanding of the area of specialization, an innovative ability to solve new problems, and a capacity to learn continually and interact with trans-disciplinary groups. Extensive use of Technology enhanced learning methodologies together with web based course management and on-line learning systems enriches the programme delivery and facilitate students to broaden their horizons

Course objective: To impart theoretical knowledge that underpins the various areas of Computer Science and IT; to impart sound knowledge in Science, Technology and Management related to Information Systems and their applications in relevant fields with the latest technologies; build a pool of technically qualified manpower to build a knowledge society; to cater the needs of industry and scientific organizations in global era in IT and aligned areas; develops professionals and leaders of high caliber imbued with values of entrepreneurship, ethics and social responsibility; to emerge as leader in the vital areas that are essential to the effective integration of IT enabled services

Course duration: The duration of the programme is 2 years full time, the courses are carefully designed to attain both technical and managerial aspects that enable them to grow into competent, seasoned professionals, there are 13 core courses spread across 3 semesters accumulating 48 credits, the 4th semester is for internship with 18 credits, students are required to undergo an industry or research oriented project in any leading IT or R&D organization, students are also required to take up two electives of 6 credits and the total requirement of credit is 72 for post graduation

Eligibility: Entry-level requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Engineering/ Technology/AMIE or Master’s degree in Computer Science and Applications (MCA) with minimum score of 60 percentage marks or CGPA of above 6.5 out of 10 points, in the qualifying examination

Number of seats: The number of seats for the program is 60 (sixty)

Selection criteria: Admissions are based on All India admission test and interview. Candidates with valid GATE scores and those applying under NRI/Foreign National category are exempted from the admission test

Application fee: Rs 750/- (for general category), Rs 375/- (for SC/ST category); make demand draft in favour of Director, IIITM-K, payable at any nationalized bank in Trivandrum

Course fee: The course fee for the Master of Science in IT programme is Rs 1,50,000/- (for Indian students) the fee is payable in four equal installments of Rs 37,500/-

Selection list will be announced on the day of interview and students selected will have to pay a non-refundable advance fee of Rs 15,000/- and confirm admission. This amount will be adjusted against the first installment of fees, payable on joining along with the caution deposit and medical coverage

NRI/Foreign national students: Few seats are available for NRIs/Foreign national students. NRI/Foreign national students are exempted from the requirement of All India admission test but are required to submit the application through online and forward print copy along with payment of US$100 or Rs 5000/- in addition to the application fee of Rs 750/- (Rs 350/- for SC/ST). Tuition fee for NRIs/Foreign national students is 3000 US$ per annum

How to apply: Online application will commence on 05.04.2010. All disputes related to test/interview shall be subject to the jurisdiction of courts in Kerala only. Appearance in the test/interview or figuring in the rank list does not ipso facto confer any right for admission to the programs unless found suitable as per the eligibility criteria as amended from time to time by CUSAT

Scholarships: Students with minimum 65 percentage marks or 7.0 CGPA in the qualifying degree examination are offered scholarship@ Rs 8000/- p.m. to cover tuition fee, university fee and living expenses. SC/ST students admitted are offered scholarship valued over Rs Two lakhs to cover tuition fee, lodging and boarding expenses, book grant and are also provided a lap top
